Lincolns Cottage Wedding | DC Monument | Alex & Jason

April 30, 2019

Until Alex & Jason’s Lincolns Cottage wedding this past weekend it had been about 2-3 years before I got choked up when someone else was saying their vows. Something about this day was special. From the time I met with Alex and Jason and they told me they wanted their wedding to feel like them and that’s my favorite thing to hear. These two weren’t interested in traditions, materialism, or ideas that didn’t represent who they are and who they’re becoming. It doesn’t get much better than that.

This wedding capped off what had to be a historical perfect week of DC weather. After photographing four engagement sessions with great sun and light all around the District, it was simply probable Alex & Jason may not be so lucky. Fortunately, I was dead wrong.

You can see from the photos, but the wedding day was perfect. Being my first wedding at Lincoln’s Cottage, where it’s said President Lincoln wrote the emancipation proclamation I wanted to use the venue in unique ways as much as possible, while still focusing on the story of Alex, Jason, and their now combined families.

The outdoor ceremony was incredible with bagpipes, readings with a ton of depth, and vows that as mentioned made everyone tear up. Following that it was time for a cocktail hour in the courtyard with yard games (cornhole what up?!) and then a sweet reception that went from tear-filled speeches to finishing up with Macklemore (any chance to end a wedding with a song that ISN’T Journey should be taken).

Weddings like these are the good ones. The ones you, the guests, and even the vendors remember for a while. Where there doesn’t seem to be room in your heart for another favorite wedding, days like these make space. I’m so pumped for these two and hope we get to nerd out together in the future and am jealous of their honeymoon in France! Until then, here are a few of my favorite photos from this Lincoln’s Cottage wedding!
