2017 was overall an incredible year for Sara and I. Between our wedding with family and friendsour awesome honeymoon in the Bahamas (both our first time there!) and moving in together, it’s been such a fun learning experience I could’ve never imagined. Normally we head to Sara’s parents in Oklahoma for the holidays, but for Sara and I’s first married holiday season, we decided to spend Christmas in New York City and celebrate there! It’s a little different from us spending time with family, but we wanted to embrace our time off with something meaningful to our first married Christmas. I’m kind of a sentimental sap (I mean, I photograph weddings for a living!) so this would be something cool to tell our kids someday.

We had both visited NYC at various times for work and pleasure, so we wanted our list of things to do and places to eat was new and fun! The first night we arrived, we went to Brooklyn and saw the Dyker Heights Holiday lights which were mindblowing! Sara found this cool idea and there were so many lights! Although it was cold, walking around a whole neighborhood surrounded by Christmas lights was so cool!

We also stayed in the Millenium Hilton in the Financial District all on Hilton Honors points which was super cool and we had one of the best views around! We could even see the Brooklyn Bridge!

Other fun things we did while spending Christmas in New York City were (but not limited to):

  • See the Lion King on Broadway (it was amazing!)
  • Visited the Fearless Girl Statue
  • Ate amazing food at Vic’s Italian, Red Rooster, Cookie DŌ NYC. Thanks to my friend Rachel Soleil who got us reservations!
  • Saw Pixar’s new movie CoCo
  • Visited Central Park
  • Took a look at the interim 5th Avenue Apple Store, I love Apple stores even though they can be bad for my wallet!
  • Walked along the Highline
  • Saw the famous Rockefeller Tree

It was such an incredible time to relax, reflect on our amazing 2017 and hope for everything that’s to come in 2018. You can read a bit more about big changes in our lives in our Monthly Recaps! For now here are a few of my favorite photos from our first married Christmas in New York City!
