After being a wedding photographer based in DC for a few years now, one of the most common DC engagement session locations couples inquire about is one filled with equal parts waterfront, murals, donuts, canals, and many times a university. For Taaha & Sabiha’s Georgetown engagement photos, it felt like we had a full day together exploring this neighborhood that was so special to these two.
I’ve photographed engagement sessions in many DC locations, but everything during this session felt special. It could’ve been the connection between Taaha & Sabiha who attended Georgetown University and kindled their relationship, the fact that we had the waterfront all to ourselves other than a few folks gearing up for a run, or simply that wonderful sunrise light that every once in a while blesses a seldom Mason Photography engagement session. In what was one of our longer engagement sessions of the year (more time is always better!) there never felt like a lull or like we were wasting time. We were exploring Georgetown together.
Everything lined up for us three as we only had one specific morning to make this engagement session in Georgetown work. Taaha & Sabiha had flown in from Texas and were totally fine with a 6:15AM start time for their session. It couldn’t have been more perfect. We started out along the epic Georgetown waterfront overlooking the Kennedy Center, Potomac River, and Francis Scott Key bridge.
During many shooting situations, it’s often a mix between art and problem solving. For example, I wanted to create something fun with the new fountain installation at Georgetown Waterfront park but of course did not want Taaha & Sabiha to get wet & ruin their outfits (at least at the beginning of the session). So what do you do? You get in the fountain yourself! I luckily came out mostly unscathed!
After that we walked along the Georgetown canal as we interacted with cyclists, runners and locals before switching outfits to a more casual look and making our way up to Georgetown University. We embraced the direct sun, an empty campus and walked along the cobblestone streets while photographing these two in front of the colorful and historic houses. We even ended their Georgetown engagement session in front of a bright pink flower shop which was pretty epic!
I hope this is not the last time I’ll photograph these two as their wedding is in Texas next year but it was an honor to explore with them! This one was just so special. Here are a few of my favorite Georgetown engagement photos from Taaha and Sabiha’s session!
