Having lived in DC for 8 years now, and spending the majority off my time on H St NE it was a huge blessing when the epic food-fashion-coffee unicorn known as Maketto came to town. It’s an amazing spot, and as they started hosting super cool weddings there I was honestly so jealous and wanted to shoot a Maketto wedding so bad!
Enter Winnie & Scott! Not only were these two getting married at Maketto, but were some of my favorite people ever throughout the wedding process. Despite two COVID reschedules, we made it and it was so so sweet!
We started with a romantic and tear-filled first look at Union Market which is a nearby NoMA staple, then headed a traditional Chinese tea ceremony with Winnie’s family. Weddings like this are the most fun because we’re fusing two people and their cultures, family, desires, and worlds together. Still blows my mind that my job is to photograph not just history and legacy, but the sum becoming more than it’s parts.
Then it was time for the perfect Maketto wedding ceremony outside in the courtyard! Guests lined the stairs and balcony, there were so many laughs and jokes, while many tears were shed. After a long long time for these two, the day finally came.
I love every wedding I get a chance to photograph, but there are certain ones where I think to myself “I’d shoot this every day if I had to” and this was one of those. Here are a few of my favorite photos from Winnie & Scott’s Maketto Wedding!
