Best of 2018 | Year in Review

December 24, 2018

2018 was an absolute whirlwind but a blast nonetheless. I’m incredibly grateful for the couples that let Mason Photography tell dive into their lives and tell their story. Even after a year like this one, I still have to remind myself how crazy it is I get to do this for a living, and if you’re reading this, that means you’ve helped do that. Thank you.

We celebrated the most weddings photographed in a year this year (43)! We also celebrated our 100th wedding as well! I can’t believe my first wedding ever was in 2011. We’ve come a long way and I am so grateful.

It’s couples like these who help support my volunteer work for organizations like Newstory Charity, Three Roots International and Charity Water, as well as an end of year donation to Little Lights, right here in DC. With every photo delivered, we’re trying to do something bigger than ourselves, and I love that. My clients are world-changers. Thank you, again.

It was difficult to cull down these photos from 43 weddings, engagements and stories into a few that wouldn’t break the internet, but here are my favorite images and moments from 2018, also some of the context. 🙂

Firstly, I shot a total of 17 weddings this year at District Winery starting with Emily & Michael!

Spent time with lots of fun pups!

And bikes!

And brides who love something different.

“Do you wanna meet me in the club?! YAH”

There was sweetness and great light.

And huge wedding parties in front of the Capitol!

Lots of couples doing engagement photos in the neighborhoods they lived in. Love that!

And couples who had a post-ceremony drink. 😉🍺

We saw love between sisters, who would have a tough rest of the year.

And happy, hilarious grooms!

More sibling love. 🖤

My first wedding in the Blue Ridge mountains.

And my first with dinosaurs!

Lots of love at Lincoln Memorial overlooking the mall!

And hanging out with the ducks.

Brides trusting me for something unqiue.

And joyful cake-cutting at the Williard!

Brides that traded a few bridesmaids for a bridesquad! Shout out to being able to wear those dresses again, right?! 😃

When we left DC, we’d often bust out the drone 🙂

We found out more of who we are as a company, and how to let people be themselves.

Our first ever engagement session giveway eventually turned into this amazing wedding!

With these incredible steps!

Wedding parties got silly.

And stayed cool.

And we shot our 100th wedding! The couple on the right was my FIRST wedding ever, who eventually became videographers! This meant so much to me.

We shot our first session in the water! Would love to do more of these to stay cool in the summer 😉

New places were explored, including 100 degree clocktowers.

We saw couples who had been through so much, relax on their big day whenever they were with each other. (Bill & Kate actually just welcomed a baby boy into the world!)

Lots of wine was enjoyed!

I got to see two great guys laugh and cry together. Justin & Guy you’re awesome!

Lots of sacred moments were experienced.

And couples did their own thing for first dances like singing “500 Miles” with the band.

Needless to say, brides got down!

But there was always sweetness around.

Lots of selfies were taken!

And more couples walked down the aisle together than ever before. I love this!

And so many weddings where we were there ALL DAY, even until midnight or 1AM. That’s the best!

Our couples got air!

We saw Ryan and Lauren, two rockstars celebrate 12 years of dating and life in marriage at The Anthem & Union Stage.

Union Stage is such a fun unique venue! Plus it’s on the gorgeous Wharf DC!

We photographed members of our military at sunset.

And photographed Hill folk where they live and work.

We had lots of first looks! Intimate moments that are just for you two!

I don’t have a good caption for this shot but WHOA.

🍑

👅

We photographed fellow podcasters like Sarah and Tom who are also kickass lawyers!

More rockstars 🤘🏻

Joyful, colorful engagements.

Really, really colorful engagements!

Private ceremonies and sword fighting when the weather isn’t bad!

And weddings on a boat!

And under bridges in Georgetown!

Shoutout to dads holding flowers 😭😭😭

We saw Ethiopian queens marry their campaign sweethearts.

Our couples handled unexpected weather like CHAMPS! Jennifer you are incredible!

We went to Charleston for the last moments of sunset.

And saw daughters welcomed into families.

Of course, we finished in New York City!

With an epic party!

And one last cute engagement right here at home in DC.

Seriously though, this year has been challenging personally but so rewarding and I am honored that couples choose me to tell their stories, and carry on the legacy of the depths of their relationships each and every week. We seldom advertise and hope that our love of our couples and our work will carry us on. If you know someone you think would connect with what we do here at Mason Photography and they get engaged, always feel free to send them our way and we’ll take care of them. Thank you so much.
