Jan & Leslie

January 17, 2024

I talk about it all the time but there are specific weddings where it doesn’t feel like work. It feels like you’re with a big group of your friends. It just so happens to that you’re documenting their story throughout the day. For Jan & Leslie’s editorial District Winery wedding, this was the whole day’s vibe.

I had known from their Columbia Heights engagement session and our pre-wedding call what the feel of the day was which was so exciting. They wanted a relaxing day, dressed to the 9s, but the feel of a party and reunion tour for all of their friends they’ve made in years past. The three of us love music and there were tons of musicians at their wedding I got to nerd out with as well.

At the waterfront ceremony, everything was perfect. The light coming in through District Winery’s terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows was flattering as ever with lots of shadow play. One of Jan & Leslie’s special elements was a huge disco ball installation hanging from the ceiling which sparkled everywhere. It was gorgeous.

When the night came, the music hit, and it was incredible. Because of J & L’s intentionality and musical taste (as well as an awesome DJ) it felt like there were more songs played than most weddings, without all of the filler or lame traditional songs. These two and their crew danced the night away which was amazing and concluded an another incredible District Winery wedding.
