Despite the craziness of this year, I’ve had a few moments where hope and love were won my attention over. The most recent ones were with Merav and Dmitri at this past weekend’s Anderson House Wedding. Even in DC’s oppressive summer heat (only exemplified by hand sanitizer baths and masks), these two had an epic day to remember.
First of all, it was our first time photographing a Larz Anderson house wedding! Always seeing photos of this historic DC mansion on Instagram with its signature outdoor fountain (that I see as a pool from March-October!), I wanted to shoot here so bad and give a Mason Photography take on things. In addition to the new venue, Merav and Dmitri got ready and dressed where they decided to become a couple and have spent most of their recent years: WeWork in Chinatown! I love WeWork’s industrial design and any time a photographer hear’s “we’re doing something different” there’s extra excitement anyway.
After the first look, Merav and Dmitri’s wedding day resembled some of my favorite weddings of the past! With laid back portraits around the office space giving us and our favorite videographers Wise Films a chance to get creative and weird, to a heartfelt and intentional Ketubah signing and blessing, if you were at this wedding it meant M & D loved you. That was easily seen!
Through tear-filled vows and prayers during the traditional Jewish ceremony among socially-distant seated guests on the Larz Anderson House’s lawn, you could feel the excitement and fun of being there. The toasts were amazing, multiple languages were spoken which is one of my favorite parts of photographing DC weddings, and images of these wonderful people were made on the gorgeous backdrop of an Anderson House wedding.
