To say this was a fun one, would be an understatement. I knew when during Lauren & Ryan’s call that their Union State wedding would be nothing but an absolute epic day. These two (and their son Jackson) just exemplify fun, and we connected on so many levels. Ryan is the drummer of SOJA, Lauren is a rockstar in the education world, and having their wedding at a concert venue like Union Stage just seemed right. For this photographer who used to shoot bands on tour, and loves receptions, it was a perfect match.
This day looked pretty untraditional to some but to me was a wedding filled with intentionality. Lauren, Ryan and Jackson all wore Nike Jordans, the first hour or so of the day was taking photos all along The Wharf and near the Anthem. The guests’ favors were backstage passes and the stage was always used! The highlight of the night though was for their “first dance” when Lauren & Ryan came out on stage and started slow dancing, and they both looked like that moment wasn’t really them. Well a record scratch or two later, they were lighting up the stage with their choreographed dance to Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kanye and more. It was one of those special wedding moments where everyone just has their mouth open. It was absolutely amazing. Jackson joining them for some flossing at the end was equal parts adorable and incredible.
These are the weddings we’ll look back on someday and say they were special. Not because of the location or the Jordans, but because Lauren & Ryan made their wedding theirs. There’s no better way to celebrate your story than making your day yours. I’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking!
